Climbing Guidebooks

Two guidebooks are of interest to climbers visiting Tafraoute and the Anti-Atlas.

Climbing in the Moroccan Anti-Atlas by Claude Davies and Cicerone Press was the first book to detail climbing on Jebel el Kest, covering 25 crags on the massif's southern slopes overlooking the Ameln Valley. This guide also makes brief mention of some crags above Sidi M'Zal and Asseldrar (Assendrar). It is available from most bookshops and online.

Moroccan Anti-Atlas North by Steve Broadbent and the OAC, published in 2010 details over 650 routes on 55 crags on Jebel el Kest's northern side, including Tagmout, Tanalt and the Dwawj Slabs, Afantinzar, Samazar, Tagzene, Idaougnidif and Sidi M'Zal. This guide is available for purchase here as well as from major climbing retailers in the UK and several outlets in Tafraoute. Free updates are available for members who have purchased this product from www.climb-tafraoute.com

Recent additions to Asseldrar (Assendrar) and Jebel Taskra, as well as outlying areas are not currently detailed in any guidebooks, though route information is contained within the Tafraoute Area New Routes Book in the Amandiers Hotel.

There is no guidebook to the granite sport-climbing around Tafraoute, but details can be found online at http://tafraoutclimbing.blogspot.com/
