If you're visiting Tafraoute this winter then don't leave home without our updated map to the Anti-Atlas! It's the most accurate and detailed map to help you get to all of the crags on Jebel el Kest, whether you're driving in a hire car, hitching a ride, or travelling by taxi. Our 2012-13 edition has new crag locations added, useful contact numbers in case of an accident whilst you're out and about, as well as locations of guest houses, hotels and food shops.

British trad-climbing legend Johnny Dawes has left Tafraoute with some of its hardest routes to date after a brief visit to the Oasis at the beginning of March. Not surprisingly, Johnny's uncompromising approach saw him jump straight in at the deep end, with ascents of a number of unclimbed desperates on the granite, including Rumpus (E4 6a) and Call of Duty (E4 6a) at Aguerd Oudad. The Samazar Road is currently closed between Ighir (Afantinzar end) and Schoolhouse Junction. No information of when it is likely to open, but don't rely on getting that way for the next week or so as it is being surfaced.

Tafraoute's most popular multi-pitch climb, Joe Brown's masterpiece White Tower Original Route, is described in the recently-published Tifghalt miniGuide, and is now available from our downloads page.
The guide provides the most detailed access and route information yet published to some of the best mountain crags in the Ameln Valley, including the White Tower and Crags U, V, and W.

We've been making a few changes to the OAC web pages, and as a result climb-tafraoute.com has a new look to it! Over the coming months we'll be tidying up our new-route reporting, and topo-download pages as part of a wider overhaul of the OAC website. Ben Wintringham Killed in Tragic Abseiling Accident

It is with deep regret and enormous sadness that we have received news of the death of Ben Wintringham on Friday 21 October 2011. Ben was climbing in the Anti-Atlas with his wife, Marion, and fellow Anti-Atlas pioneer Mike Mortimer when the accident happened during the descent from a climb near Tafraoute. Following the publication of Moroccan Anti-Atlas North last Autumn the winter season has seen over 150 new routes reported on the north side of Jebel el Kest. Our 2011 update has all the details and is essential reading for those heading out there with the intention of new-routing.
